God in many aspects or just one? [Aug. 30th, 2005|10:46 pm]

hello, I recently joined this community and would like to open up a topic of discussion.
How can people only see one aspect of God if God is indefinite and all-powerful and huge? How can we even claim to know all the aspects of God, to know all of God? How can we as measley humans think that is possible? I don't think we can lable God into only three parts and that's it, there's always going to be more to learn about God, and some of it probably won't fit into one of those parts of God that is supposedly all of God. But if labeling God into three specific parts really confining Him to these aspects? No, of course not, God will do and be whoever He wants to be. However, it might confine the way we look at God, which I really don't like people doing. I cannot fathom the full extent of God, so how can we think we can fathom Him as only one of our beings? He is certainly more than that in all the ways we don't see it.
i used He as a pronoun for God, yes yes i know gender specific=bad, but it's just easier, i don't know the gender of God, i was just calling it a Him, would you prefer it or him/her or ...?
this is my opinion on the topic, what's yours?

Re: God

1. Are you asking why i think that the first book with Abraham's story in it has the God of Abraham's word in it? The Bible explains the God of Abraham, so I do think that it has some "words" from the GoA when it says it does. how could I believe in the GoA without believing that the text that original explained the GoA had some of the GoA's words in it?
2.In the Decalogue, how did God appear to be jealous. Are you are referencing the 'false idols' commandment? I do not believe that God commanded us to do this because he was jealous of soemthign else we might worship. I believe God's reason for creating that commandment is that false idols can be destructive to our well-being. I believe that all of the commandments were to benefit us and not God.
3. Why do you think the current theologies of GoA's followers misogynist? Is having females put into high positions among the church misogynist? I think there is a need for religion because people need their little stories to teach the young and some figure to look up to. I don't believe that promoting the universal idea of love and respect for all humans will actually get people to love and respect everyone. I think that people like having stories and basic ideas to think about. Personally, I don't think that all of our own personal theologies at this second really matter, but that the idea of universal love and respect are important. But, I do believe in God, and I do need someone to pray to when I get upset.
You're Welcome, and Thankyou
